Meet City Commissioner Candidate Claudia Villatoro

Claudia Lorena Villatoro Abascal was born in Chicacao, Suchitepequez, a prosperous town on the southern coast of Guatemala. She immigrated to the United States of America in 1993, settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and achieved American citizenship.

BUSINESS WOMAN OF THE YEAR

In 2001, she began a life dedicated to business, political, and social activities, highlighting her leadership and contributions to peace in Guatemala.

Her business activities in the United States include the establishment of the companies Academy Glass and Tint, Golden Gate Glass, and Sky Glass in New Mexico, Villatoro's Tint Inc. in California, and Premiere Glass and Tint in Florida. In 2003, she received the award for Business Women of the Year by President George W. Bush.

In 2009, Claudia Villatoro participated as Commodities Brocker on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Starting in 2008, she expanded her horizon to the social area, focusing on the Guatemalan immigration problem and establishing herself as a social leader, for whose participation received a diploma in Political Science from the Rafael Landivar University of Guatemala. She is also named Ambassador of La Paz in the National Palace of Guatemala in the year 2010. In 2011, she participated as an international observer in the Guatemalan national elections.

This social approach has led her, in the last five years, to crown her dream of life: The creation of her own non-profit organization, Villatoro's Global Foundation, whose mission is to provide help to people in extreme need anywhere on the planet.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Today, Claudia Villatoro continues trying to make a difference in a Guatemala with many needs.

Her efforts have focused on bringing purified water to many marginalized homes and working on social projects that will have an important social impact in the years to come.
